I do not understand the provisions of the Super Institutional Plan in Franklin Templeton Ultra Short Bond Fund. How is it different from a direct plan? Are there differences in minimum investment amount? Are there restrictions on redemptions? Does Super Institutional Plan offer better returns?

There is nothing special or institutional about Franklin India Ultra Short Bond Fund - Super Institutional Plan. It is just another ultra short term fund that offers direct and regular plans to investors. There is no special minimum investment requirement or restrictions on redemption. Sebi has stopped mutual funds from offering multiple plans with varying expense in the same fund in September 2012. Now funds can operate only two plans in a scheme - Regular and Direct. However, a few funds like Franklin India Ultra Short Term Bond Fund still carry 'Institutional' in their name. These institutional plans only carry the name, but they function like a normal plan.
