Objective

An online health insurance policy that aims at covering hospitalisation medical expenses and other incidental expenses in case insured person gets hospitalized.

Suited for

It can be bought as an individual or family floater covering your spouse and 2 children under the same policy.

What does it do?

Apart from expenses incurred while hospitalized, this policy also provides for treatment taken at home on advice of the doctor, day care treatment for illnesses or procedures which do not require an overnight stay in hospital due to technological progress and hospitalisation expenses of donor if a major organ transplant happens. Recovery Benefit worth Rs 10000 post discharge, Daily Cash Allowance to pay for expenses which are otherwise not covered under the policy and Critical Illness Benefit are also on offer. Critical Illness benefit pays a lumpsum equal to the basic sum insured if any of the insured member contracts a listed illness. Ambulance expenses are covered too.

Pros

There is no capping on room rent or ICU rent.
There are no sub-limits on different illnesses.
This policy can be bought online as well.
Premiums paid towards this policy enjoy a tax benefit under Section 80D.

Cons

It does not allow lifelong policy renewal.

Our View

Critical Illness benefit is useful if you had a family history of any of the stated illnesses. The policy offers a satisfactory coverage, however, the policy does not allow to renew beyond 75 years of age. Old age is the time when chances of contacting the diseases is highest. Health insurance becomes crucial during that time period. Prefernce should be to buy a policy that offers lifetime renewals.
