About SBI Children's Fund - Investment Plan - Regular Plan

SBI Children's Fund - Investment Plan - Regular Plan is a hybrid mutual fund scheme of SBI Mutual Fund. Launched on September 29, 2020, it is currently managed by Rama Iyer Srinivasan and Lokesh Mallya. The fund has an expense ratio of 1.83% with an overall AUM (Assets Under Management) of ₹5,354 Cr.

The scheme seeks to generate long term capital appreciation by investing predominantly in equity and equity related securities of companies across sectors and market capitalizations. The scheme will also invest in debt and money market instruments with an endeavour to generate income. The fund allows minimum lumpsum investment of ₹1,000 and minimum SIP of ₹500.

Investment Strategy

The scheme seeks to generate long term capital appreciation by investing predominantly in equity and equity related securities of companies across sectors and market capitalizations. The scheme will also invest in debt and money market instruments with an endeavour to generate income.

Suitability

The fund usually invests predominantly in mid-cap and small-cap stocks. It is suitable for investors:

  • Aiming for long term wealth creation
  • With a 7+ year investment horizon
  • Who can withstand interim sharp declines in investment value

Note:

  • Invest only through SIP
  • The fund carries a lock-in period of 5 years or till the child attains the age of maturity, whichever is earlier

Capital Gains Taxation

The following tax treatment is based upon last 12-months asset allocation and may vary from other funds in the category.

  • If the mutual fund units are sold after 1 year from the date of investment, gains upto Rs 1.25 lakh in a financial year are exempt from tax. Gains over Rs 1.25 lakh are taxed at the rate of 12.5%.
  • If the mutual fund units are sold within 1 year from the date of investment, entire amount of gain is taxed at the rate of 20%.
  • No tax is to be paid as long as you continue to hold the units.

  • Dividends are added to the income of the investors and taxed according to their respective tax slabs. Further, if an investor's dividend income exceeds Rs. 10,000 in a financial year, the fund house also deducts a TDS of 10% before distributing the dividend.
