
Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund recently announced opening up of investments in their international schemes from January 1, 2023. Two of their funds - Motilal Oswal NASDAQ 100 FoF and Motilal Oswal S&P 500 Index Fund were in our recommendation earlier. But we had to put them on 'Hold' as the AMC had suspended investments into the funds on account of SEBI moratorium in February 2022. We now move these funds from 'Hold' to 'Buy'. Background of the matter In the calendar year 2022, international funds have seen a lot of regulatory hurdles after Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) asked fund houses to stop taking inflows as it was on the verge of hitting the limits. As per the rules, each fund house can invest a maximum of US$1 billion in overseas markets (excluding foreign ETFs). Further, there is an overall investment limit of US$7 billion for the mutual fund industry as a whole.
