About Tata Nifty 50 Index Fund - Direct Plan
Tata Nifty 50 Index Fund - Direct Plan is a equity mutual fund scheme of Tata Mutual Fund. Launched on January 01, 2013, it is currently managed by Rakesh Prajapati and Nitin Bharat Sharma. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.23% with an overall AUM (Assets Under Management) of ₹1,380 Cr.
Tata Nifty 50 Index Fund - Direct Plan is mandated to invest at least 80 per cent of its assets in large-cap stocks at all times. Being passively managed, it replicates the portfolio of its chosen benchmark index. The fund allows minimum lumpsum investment of ₹1,000 and minimum SIP of ₹150.
Investment Strategy
The scheme aims to provide medium to long term capital gains, by investing in equity shares of only those companies comprised in the Nifty 50 Index and in the same proportion as that of the index, regardless of their investment merit.

- Seeking exposure in large-cap stocks for moderately high returns
- Aiming for long-term wealth creation
- With a 5+ year investment horizon

Capital Gains Taxation
- If the mutual fund units are sold after 1 year from the date of investment, gains upto Rs 1.25 lakh in a financial year are exempt from tax. Gains over Rs 1.25 lakh are taxed at the rate of 12.5%.
- If the mutual fund units are sold within 1 year from the date of investment, entire amount of gain is taxed at the rate of 20%.
- No tax is to be paid as long as you continue to hold the units.
