If you are tempted to try out luck and instincts with investment, then create a small corpus for it and keep that amount separate for such strategy. Ensure that you do not mix this with your long-term investment plan.
Investment is a matter of discipline and your long-term investment plan shouldn't be put to such risk. For such investment hypothesis, trading or to take chances with direct investment, formulate your strategy and principles. After testing the waters yourself, if you find success then you can very well think of moving your mutual fund investments to direct investments.
