I can invest Rs 5,000 every month for the next 3 years. Please suggest a suitable investment plan.

If you're completely risk-averse, you should consider a bank recurring deposit, a post office recurring deposit, or a short-term bond fund. If you're willing to court a little bit of risk, then invest in the growth plan of an MIP. These plans typically invest 10-15 per cent of their assets in equities and given your 3-year timeframe, you will be able to beat inflation without being exposed to inordinate risk.
